Improving Image Contrast in Photoshop

Often times, the picture that comes out of your camera is flat and lacks contrast. You can really make your image pop by improving the contrast. There are several ways to do this in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Let's look at "Levels," which is available in both programs.

Judging Image Resolution

 As you are working on images for your blog, and perhaps combining several images into one (like creating a style board), you need to pay close attention to image size and resolution. Not doing so will affect the quality of the image.

Resolution refers to the quality of your photo. Digital photos are made up of tiny pixels of color. We need to understand how many pixels per inch look "right" to the naked eye, so that there is no loss of image quality.

Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?

Whether taken by a professional photographer or a point-and-shoot beginner, most photos can use some help once they are on your computer. Photoshop and Photoshop Elements are the standard for image enhancement, but you might be wondering which of the two programs is the right choice for you.

Photoshop is the choice for professionals who are processing a number of images on a regular basis. It is powerful, complex, and it comes with a pretty hefty price-tag. For many people, however, Photoshop is too powerful, and too complex. Most users would never need Photoshop's full-range of features. Photoshop Elements is much more affordable, and is now robust enough to do many of the same things that Photoshop does.

Photography 101- Depth of Field

When you're taking pictures, one important element is to give your viewer a very clear sense of where you want them to look as they move through the photograph. And one of the techniques to do just that is called selective focus, or depth of field.

When you hear someone talk about depth of field, all that really means is the area of the image that's in focus.
