The Process with Kathryn Storke
When/why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in September of 2007 as a hobby. I had recently decided not to attend the graduate program I was set to start in three weeks. I was living in a city, where the only person I knew was my boyfriend (now my husband), with no job and no plan. I've loved weddings ever since I was 16 and my older sister got married. I had several girlfriends get engaged in the summer of '07, so I started creating wedding inspiration boards for fun. A blog seemed like a good place to share them - I had no idea it would eventually become my job!
What do you love about it?
In some ways my blog is really all about love stories and parties, which are two of the best things I can think of. As a job, I love the flexibility I have as a blogger. If I want to sleep in and stay up late, I can do that. If I miss my sisters, I can pack up my laptop and go for a visit.
Tell us a little about what you do and what your site is about.
On Snippet & Ink, I try to strike a balance between eye candy and meaningful, thoughtful details. It's easy to focus on the visual aspects of a wedding (especially when the photos are so beautiful!), but I always try to bring it back to what a wedding is really all about.
What is your idea of a successful blog?
I feel my blog is most successful when it stays true to my aesthetic and values; when I'm drawing inspiration from life and art, rather than when I'm hung up about what other bloggers are doing.
What has been the best decision you have made regarding your blog and business to this point?
Sticking with it. There have been times when I wanted to hit delete on the whole thing and never look back. Sticking it out has challenged me to grow creatively, and find new ways to love what I do.
How do you maintain inspiration, creativity and sanity as a professional blogger?
By pulling myself out of the online rabbit hole as often as possible! Interacting with the real world (as opposed to the virtual one) keeps me sane. Museums, nature, time with friends, good food - these things all inspire me, and I can't get to them when I'm sitting at the computer.
What is your next exciting step for business growth?
I've been working on a redesign for the last few months, so fingers crossed that will launch very soon!
What do you do to give your mind rest/reprieve from the online world?
When I need a break during the day, I cozy up in my favorite chair with a good book or turn on the radio and sing it out.
What advice you would give to a new writer/designer who is looking to create a successful site today?
As someone who can get totally immobilized by perfectionism, my best advice is to just get started. The sooner you start, the sooner you can refine your content and hone your authentic voice.

The article that you have been shared is very awesome.
I started reading your blog when my daughter was engaged 3 years ago- but long after the wedding it still is one of my very favorite blogs-- for the inventive party ideas and links to other great posts. Plus 4 of our kids live up in SF so I like that you have that slant. Thanks for all the beautiful work you've put out week after week.
